A Chance To Grow Hosts Movement-Based Therapy Expert

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, December 3, 2011—Bette Lamont, M.A./D.M.T and Certified Counselor, will be speaking about a highly effective movement-based therapy called Neurological Reorganization (NR) from 10 a.m. to noon at the nonprofit agency A Chance To Grow located in northeast Minneapolis.

NR identifies a child's developmental gaps and then targets them through prescribed daily exercises. A growing body of scientific research on brain plasticity supports this type of therapy, and NR has a 50-year track record of success. NR is non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical, permanent, affordable and can be done at home.

The agency is encouraging anyone to attend who is a parent of or works with children who have issues related to AD/HD, Anxiety, Autism Spectrum, Behavior and Mood Disorders, Rages, Learning Disabilities, Dyslexia, FAS/FAE, Adoption, Attachment, PTSD, Medical Traumas, Birth Traumas or Brain Injuries.

Lamont comes to Minnesota from Seattle with 25 years of experience recovering thousands of children and adults with neurological challenges. She has degrees in Education, Neurological Reorganization and Movement Analysis and has provided therapy to clients around the world.

As an agency that is devoted to helping those with learning challenges, developmental delays and brain injuries reach their highest potential, A Chance To Grow is proud to team with Bette Lamont in bringing NR to families in Minnesota.

New Pre-K Workshop Teaches Educators the Importance of Movement in the Classroom

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (10/11/11)— The Minnesota Learning Resource Center in northeast Minneapolis will be hosting its third S.M.A.R.T. Pre-K Workshop on Nov. 4-6. S.M.A.R.T. stands for Stimulating Maturity through Accelerated Readiness Training and is based on the principle that movement anchors learning.

Pre-k educators will learn how to incorporate exercises into their classrooms that will increase students’ fine motor skills, balance, coordination, visual efficiency, eye-hand coordination and much more. Once these readiness skills are in place, children have the necessary tools to become life-long learners.

This new workshop is a product of the non-profit agency A Chance to Grow’s recent study. A Chance to Grow, which houses the Minnesota Learning Resource Center, recently completed a five-year study that suggested its S.M.A.R.T. program might reduce achievement gaps between students of varying income levels and racial backgrounds and can be applied to students at the pre-k level. Originally, the program only catered to students in grades one through three.

The S.M.A.R.T. Mentors who will teach the workshop come from a variety of backgrounds and aim to provide many hands-on activities, making the three-day workshop a highly engaging and applicable experience for educators working with the 3-5-year-old set.
