Spring 2009
Good News on several fronts for the MLRC!
The MLRC has received notice of several awards this spring –
The Greater Twin Cities United Way has awarded the MLRC $200,000 to initiate year one of a three-year project involving seven schools from the nine-county metro area. The purpose of the award is to increase the percent of students from low-income families reading at grade level by end of 3rd Grade to 80% by 2012.
We welcome partnerships with the following elementary schools, their principals and S.M.A.R.T. teams of educators: Centennial (Richfield), Jordan (Jordan),
Parkview (Rosemont), Sheridan Hills (Richfield), Westview (Apple Valley), Wise (Minneapolis), and Woodland (Eagan).
AmeriCorps has awarded the MLRC a VISTA member for the 2009-2010 program year to serve as a communications coordinator. This person will assist us in all areas of communication which will help to share all of your good news across the state and nation!
The Northland Foundation has approved funding for $8,000 and the Josten’s Foundation for $6,000 to help the MLRC provide mentoring to schools within Minnesota.
In addition, the Jay and Rose Phillips Foundation has provided $25,000 to complete our five-year S.M.A.R.T. Early Childhood pilot.
Thank you to United Way, AmeriCorps and our very generous funders for your support of our work!
