“Movement Anchors Learning! Be creative with this…think of Number Ladders more like Learning Ladders. I’ve seen everything from colors to shapes to numbers to word families to music notes! OR use your creativity and change the words in familiar songs to skip counting or days of the week…and remember to add in some Cross Patterning!!”

"It is a good idea to have team meetings between mentor visits. It helps to make sure that things get done, like changing up the S.M.A.R.T. room a little. It also helps to keep the S.M.A.R.T. Team connected!"

Summer Time for Kids
As exciting as it is to greet those young students entering your classroom each fall, sending them on prepared to learn in the next grade ready is rewarding as well!
There are many ways to keep your S.M.A.R.T. students smart over the summer months and that is to remind families of all of the ways in which they can continue to promote S.M.A.R.T. at home.
Turning off the television and computer is one big step and giving them alternatives to filling their time the S.M.A.R.T. way is another!
Summer Time for Teachers
Go ahead, ENJOY your summer! You deserve it! And while you are out and about in the next couple of months, stop by a garage sale and pick up materials for next year’s S.M.A.R.T. Room! There are often games that increase skills from eye-teaming to coordination that can be purchased for cheap!
Another GREAT idea is to attend the S.M.A.R.T. workshop. Participants tell us that the second time through a workshop helps them pick up a number of ideas that they had either overlooked or forgotten from the first time around. Having had a year or two of actual program implementation makes you the perfect candidate for a S.M.A.R.T. review.
Check out the current listing of S.M.A.R.T. workshops at www.themlrc.org to register!
