S.M.A.R.T. WORDS OF WISDOM

Here are some pointers from our MLRC mentors and presenters. They all have a great deal of experience and are always happy to share tips! We’ll continue to provide pointers from our team throughout the year as they have outstanding ideas and learn constantly from all of you as they present at workshops and mentor your schools.

When we asked them “What is one very important reminder you’d like to share with S.M.A.R.T. teachers?” they said…

“Teach S.M.A.R.T.er, not harder. And HAVE FUN!” Leslie Giese

“S.M.A.R.T. is not ‘another curriculum’ It is teaching differently.” Marion Bauman

“To reach 80 hours . . . . . maintain a daily schedule with 25 – 30 minutes of CORE activities. This can be implemented in one session or in multiple segments throughout the day.” Ann Borich

“Don’t get overwhelmed and use a TEAM approach (Together Each Achieves More).”  Julie Neumann

The harder you work…
the luckier you get!

S.M.A.R.T. teachers are creative teachers so we know you’ll come up with other ways as well!

Movement and Developing Vision by Catherine Burns

Humans are complex critters, and we take time to fully develop. Each of our complex systems develops through innate processes and activity. Early development has critical ages and stages in year 1, in years 2-3 and in years 4-5, that prepare us for school, sports, relationships and emotional balance -- all engaged activity.

S.M.A.R.T. Early Childhood Update

We continue to get calls from directors of early childhood settings asking what we are doing to get the younger child ready to learn before entering school.  One recent call from a Head Start director asked about the birth to 3-year old set, since they are needing to expel children already for behavior issues.  That is a sad situation for everyone, the teacher, the child and the family.
