New Visions School has tracked the progress of students since the mid-90's and shown consistent reading gains of one year and several months annually. The MLRC has also issued its first report, The Minnesota Learning Resource Center's Summary of Results, based on the schools involved in MN during the 2000-2001 school year.

Data is reported on all three programs and various grades. A sample of the data and information indicates:

  • S.M.A.R.T. First Graders - in S.M.A.R.T. schools across the state showed a 42% faster oral reading rate on Curriculum Based Measures with 27 more words per minute. In Math, they showed 90% faster calculation and 9% more accuracy.
  • HSAS - All students groups involved made some gains on reading assessments, the most significant gains being made by two schools in suburban Minneapolis, where
there was an average gain of one year and seven months. A comment by one elementary teacher indicated "We have had two second grade elementary teachers approach us on curriculum-based reading results after Christmas this year (2000-2001). Three second graders on the listening program have increased their reading levels from beginning reader to grade-level or near-grade level. The teachers were astounded and PLEASED by these results (as were we!)."
  • NeuroTechnology - Of 204 students in first through eleventh grade who participated in 30 twenty-minute NT sessions over a three month period, the average student gained over eight months in reading skills as measured by the Slosson Oral Reading Test. On the Behavioral Dimensions Scale, 91% of the students improved over pretest scores in areas such as inattentiveness, hyperactivity, oppositional defiance, etc.
