Fine Tuning the Core Activities

child crawlingCRAWLING:
Crawling Students should:

  • Extend arms as if they are doing a swimming stroke.
  • Push off the mat using the side of foot.
  • Keep the leg flexed in a 90-degree angle when pushing off.
  • Keep hand flat and pull as they move.
  • Keep chin close to the mat.

The chest remains flat on the floor or mat throughout the activity - do not let the student dig their elbows in when crawling.

SPINNING: Turn on loud, lively music while spinning.
Spinning students should:

  • Spread out and place arms out straight from their shoulders like a " T ".
  • Spin for 15 seconds.
  • Stop and stand for 15 seconds with eyes closed.
  • Work up to spinning/stopping 10 times daily .
  • Spin as quickly as possible.

CREEPING:
Creeping Students should:

  • Creep on hands and knees using the opposite arm and leg simultaneously.
  • Say the name of a word or picture on the card as the hand slaps it.
  • Look at their hand as they say the word/picture.
  • Keep hands flat.
  • Keep fingers slightly separated and pointing forward.
  • Keep feet relaxed with toes dragging on the track.
  • Keep back flat.
  • Turn head slightly from side to side as they look at each card.
SLOW IS GOOD!
