The project is evaluated based on data collected by each of the Designated Learning Sites, using measures administered in the fall and spring.
Reports involve information such as:
- Learning readiness levels of participating kindergartners. Participating kindergarten classes at each Designated Learning Site are required to assess students using the nationally normed Brigance Word List along with other measures
- Student progress in reading achievement. Each site is responsible for collecting evaluation data, including such measures as the Slosson Oral Reading Test (SORT), Metropolitan Readiness Test and other comparable local standardized testing instrument such as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills or the Gates MacGinitie Reading Test. In some instances, curriculum based measures (e.g., reading rate) are also used.
- Student progress in other areas. Each site also collects data on student achievement in other measurable areas such as printing, auditory discrimination, math and letter recognition.
- Feedback from staff at Designated Learning Sites. Staff from Designated Learning Sites was asked to provide feedback on various components of the project.
A report involving data from school year 2000-01 when 29 Minnesota schools were implementing the programs is available by contacting the MLRC at mlrc@actg.org and requesting the MLRC State Summary Report. An Executive Summary of this information is available by clicking HERE. In addition, individual reports for years 2001 – 2003 for Tennessee, Wisconsin and South Dakota can also be purchased by contacting the MLRC.
